Janine and I took off to Athens then headed south by ferry to spend a few nights on different islands before returning to Athens and flying back to London.

Our first night was in Mikrolima (small harbour) in Piraeus, Athens. Even at 11pm on a Sunday evening it was busting with energy and we sat down for a late meal after checking into our hotel.

After a wonderful fresh grilled fish we headed over to our favourite bar Istioploikos where we had a few drinks seven years ago during the London Business School MBA regatta.

We took the super speedy (30kts) Seajets ferry to the beautiful island of Serifos.

View across the bay in Serifos where we spent two nights before taking the ferry south to Sifnos.

The port town of Sifnos lined with fantastic bars and restaurants around a shallow sandy bay.

We soon learnt that we needed to hire a car to get to Herronisos - 5km as the crow flies or 17km by road to the centre of the island and back out. We soon found out that almost everyone else was doing the same thing and hire cars were scarce.

Looking down over the tiny 'pirate' cove of Herronisos with two taverna's and 40 permanent residents. We stayed two nights in a snug self-catering apartment above the corner shop.

Finally we jumped back on the ferry to head over to the larger island of Milos for a single night.
